Public Speaking

Are you nervous about speaking English in front of a group of people? Everyone feels a little nervous. Here are some tips for public speaking:

1. Keep your sentences short and clear.

2. Use simple language and don't speak too fast.

3. Make eye contact - look at your listeners' eyes to see if they understand.

4. Ask questions and wait for them to answer you.

5. Speak loudly so people can hear you well.

6. If you think they didn't understand something, say it again in different words.

Script fro Thanksgiving day ( scene 03 and 04)

SCENE 03

NARRATOR ( FION):
When the Pilgrims arrived in Massachusetts there was nobody there, just the Indians.
And there was an Indian named Squanto who spoke English because he had an experience in England few years before their meeting.

PILGRIM 01 (BEN):
-Hello, Do you speak English?

SQUANTO ( RENATA):
- Yes, I do, Me Squanto, and you White Man?

PILGRIM 01 (BEN):
- We’re the Pilgrims, we’re from England. And we came here to explore other lands and make new friends.

SQUANTO ( RENATA):
- Oh I see… We’re Indians. There is no one else here except us. We dance, we eat, we hunt, we fish, we farm…

PILGRIM 02 (JAVIER):
- Sounds Interesting! Can you teach us how to do these things? I’m really interested in your way of living; we will need it to survive here.

SQUANTO ( RENATA):
-Sure, you’re right. You will need it. Let’s see.

NARRATOR ( FION):
Then Squanto and Pilgrims became good friends, they learned a lot togheter and they chose one date in a year to celebrate their meeting and to give thanks to be alive. This special date has been celebrating up to now a days and it’s an American holiday called: THANKS GIVING DAY.

SCENE 04

NARRATOR ( FION):
They are all together. Eating, cheering, talking, celebrating and giving thanks to be alive, for the food they are eating, and for their friendship with the Indians.

The Script of Thanks Giving 1

N: One day, the pilgrims escaped from England to America to find the freedom of the religion. They took the ship named “Mayflower” to New England.
During sailing, they found new land.

Pilgrim A : Look at that!! That seems like new world. We should dock at there.
Pilgrims : Yeah~(shouting in a exciting voice), we finally found new world, and now we got the freedom.

N: As soon as they docked and arrived there, they worshipped to God for being alive. And they started to build houses and farms and to hunt for their living. However, they were not familiar to the new land, so they had some difficulties to settle in.
One day, some of the pilgrims found some strangers.

Pilgrim B : Look. Who are they? They must not be our people.
Pilgrim C : you’re right. We should report to our leader. They might kill us.
Pilgrim B : Let’s go!!!

(Place : in the leader’s room in the village of the pilgrims.)

Pilgrim B : We saw the strangers. They might kill us. We are worrying about that.(in a hurry voice.)
Leader : What do they look like?
Pilgrim C : Wearing strange hat, half-naked…well..anyway ..scary for us..(make your face serious and worried)
Leader : Umm…I will find out by myself.

N : The leader decided to meet the strangers.

Assignment: Memorize and Recite this POEM

THE RAVEN .....by Edgar Allen Poe

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of someone gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
"Tis some visitor" I muttered, "tapping at my chamber door - Only this, and nothing more."
Ah, I distinctly remember it was in the black December,
And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor.
Eagerly I sought the morrow;- vainly I had sought to borrow
From my books surcease of sorrow -sorrow for the lost Lenore -
For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore -
Nameless here for evermore.
And the silken sad uncertain rustling of each purple curtain
Thrilled me- filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before;
So that now, to still the beating of my heart, I stood repeating ,
"Tis some visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door."
